Project Overview

The NSW Government has invested $723.3 million in health for the Tweed Valley delivering a new, state-of-the-art hospital with more beds and increased healthcare services, along with interim upgrades at The Tweed Hospital. This is one of the largest regional capital health investment funded entirely by the NSW Government.

The new hospital will include:

  • more operating theatres and recovery spaces
  • expanded emergency department
  • enhanced medical, surgical and mental health services
  • enhanced ambulatory care services including more outpatient clinics
  • new interventional cardiology service
  • new radiotherapy service as part of a new integrated cancer care service.

The Tweed Valley Hospital will be a major referral hospital at the heart of the network of hospitals and health facilities across the Tweed-Byron region. It will provide the health services required to meet the needs of the growing population of the region beyond 2032.

The development will provide the community access to more health services closer to home, which will enable patients to remain near family, friends and existing support networks. It will reduce the need for 5,000 patients to travel outside the region each year to receive treatment.

The main works construction of the new hospital commenced in January 2021. The Tweed Valley Hospital is anticipated to open to patients in early 2024.

Valley Pulse, September 2023

Welcome to the Tweed Valley Hospital’s community newsletter, Valley Pulse.

In this edition of Valley Pulse we share the good news about free parking for regional hospitals in NSW, and invite staff and community to name the six internal roads on the hospital campus. There is also a write up about the Northern NSW Careers Expo, which proved a hit with locals who turned up in droves to learn more about the jobs and careers available at the new hospital and other Northern NSW Local Health District facilities.
