Tweed Valley Hospital has to date reached several major milestones, from site selection to approval of the Stage 1 State Significant Development application.

The planning application process

The planning application process

With early works underway on the Tweed Valley Hospital site, Health Infrastructure is progressing the application for the detailed design, construction and commissioning of the new hospital.

Health Infrastructure lodged the Stage 2 State Significant Development planning application with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment on Friday 27 September 2019.

The Tweed Valley Skills Centre is an exciting initiative for Health Infrastructure, Northern NSW Local Health District and TAFE NSW to partner together to improve health and education outcomes for the Tweed-Byron region.

This is the first of many joint initiatives that demonstrates the benefits of the adjacency of the new Tweed Valley Hospital site with TAFE NSW Kingscliff , and the vision of developing an integrated Health and Education Precinct across the two campuses over time.

Exhibition of Environmental Impact Statement

The Tweed Valley Hospital project will be assessed under Part 4 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, consistent with other State Significant Development (SSD) projects. The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Stage 1 SSD planning application for the new hospital has been lodged with the Department of Planning and Environment. The EIS is the first of two planning submissions for the Tweed Valley Hospital, and seeks approval for the hospital concept and consent to commence early and enabling works on the site.

Preliminary Works - Oct 2018

The Health Administration Corporation (HAC) is acquiring land at 771 Cudgen Road, opposite Kingscliff TAFE for the new Tweed Valley Hospital. Once this land is acquired, HAC, through it's Health Infrastructure division, will undertake a number of immediate tasks to secure the site and ensure appropriate environmental control measures are in place. 
These works will provide an immediate benefit to the environmental area that is being preserved along the northern boundary of the Project Site and completion is targeted prior to the wet season.
The term used for these activities is Preliminary Works.

Environmental Impact Statement - Updated Oct 2018

An EIS is used to assess any potential environmental impacts of a major project to determine what mitigation measures should be implemented and inform the approval decision. The EIS is publicly exhibited for comment to ensure that feedback from the community, Tweed Shire Council and other government agencies is considered in the assessment process.

Planning Approval Process - Updated Oct 2018

The Tweed Valley Hospital will be assessed as a State Significant Development (SSD) application. Hospitals that have a value of more than $30 million are classified as SSD. The 2018-2019 State Budget confirmed $582 million for the brand new, state-of-the-art hospital on a greenfield site, as well as interim upgrades at the existing Tweed Hospital.
