Tweed Valley Hospital Development
The 2018-19 State Budget confirmed a $582 million investment in the health for the Tweed-Byron Local Government Areas, which will deliver a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital on a greenfield site, as well as interim upgrades at the existing The Tweed Hospital to help meet community needs until services transfer to the new hospital. The new Tweed Valley Hospital will provide more beds, expanded emergency department, enhanced surgical and medical services, enhanced ambulatory services and outpatient clinics, and the introduction of new services with a cardiac catheterisation laboratory and an integrated cancer care service including radiotherapy. Works on site will commence as soon as acquisition and planning is completed, with preliminary works to commence following transfer of ownership of the site, and early and enabling works targeted to commence by the end of 2018. The new hospital is targeting completion in 2022 and opening in 2023.
